Thurston Update (Good News!)

14th November 2023Mr Bennett
Dear parents/carers,
Thurston Update 14.11.23
Firstly, thank you for your patience and understanding this week. It has been far from ideal for all involved, but I am delighted to provide this positive update.
We are able to attend for the remainder of the week!
The weather looks better and there are no warnings in place. The Thurston Centre has no damage and the roads are clear.
Pupils will depart Wednesday 15th November at 9am. Parents are again welcome to join us in the hall.
We hope to secure a late Friday departure at 1pm. This will provide the children with time to complete a further activity. Therefore we would expect children to return to school at approx. 5pm, but we will update on the day.
Children will need a packed lunch tomorrow as per the arrangements from Monday.
We have approached the subject of refunds with Thurston and we expect this to be a positive outcome.  We will provide full details once confirmed.
We hope you and your children are pleased.
Many thanks
Mr Bennett

Y4 Multiplication Table Check Meeting – 24.3.23
Dear parents/carers,
On Wednesday 29th March @ 5:15pm, we will be hosting an information session for parents on the upcoming Year 4 MTC ( Multiplication Tables Check). The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for all year 4 pupils registered at state-funded maintained schools in England.

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.

If you would like to join us to learn more, then please complete the online form below:

Emmaus Big Draw Calendar Winners!

5th December 2022Mr Bennett
Mortimer Primary School
Excellence for all
Emmaus – 05/12/22
Dear parents/carers,
During the month of October, Year 6 took part in a Big Draw event in partnership with a local charity, Emmaus North East.  The charity is dedicated to helping those in need who are homeless and asked our Year 6 pupils to put their drawing skills to the test by drawing designs based upon North East landmarks.  The children’s work was then sent off and judged; winning entries are to be included in Emmaus’ 2023 calendar.  Many of the children’s designs depicted homeless individuals or highlighted the issue in other ways.  We invited Year 6 parents and guardians along to spend the afternoon drawing alongside the children and I think you will agree that we have some extremely talented parents at Mortimer!

Last week, representatives from Emmaus came to Mortimer to talk about how they help people in our local community and held a question and answer session about homelessness with our Year 6 pupils.  We were also lucky enough to be introduced to their new therapy puppy, Loki. They announced the names of the 12 winning artists whose work will be included in their 2023 calendar and were kind enough to give prizes to every child who took part.  Thank you so much, Emmaus!

The 12 winning entries belonged to:

  • Amy Adams
  • William Amor
  • Will Consadine
  • William Davies
  • Lily Eddon
  • Harry Evans
  • Ryan Jahanfar
  • Isabel Langston
  • Anna Maughan
  • Alice Turner
  • Finley Winfield
  • Eve-Casey Wynne

Well done to all of you and we cannot wait to see your entries on the 2023 calendar! As soon as they go on sale, we will let you know in case you want to purchase one and help support a fantastic local charity.

Mortimer Chefs

17th November 2022Mr Bennett
This week, our very own Mortimer Chefs have made their own mark of remembrance in preparation for Armistice Day.
The children worked together to follow a set of instructions to bake and decorate their own poppy biscuits.
Everybody involved had lots of fun whilst marking their respects to the brave soldiers who fought for our country. Well done everyone!

Please be reminded that you must make a note of the email address that you use when applying as this will be the email address that will be used to send notification of your school offer.

Parents are also reminded that if they change address following the submission of an application form that they must notify us of this change in writing either by email to [email protected] or by post to the School Admissions Team, Town Hall and Civic Offices, South Shields, NE33 2RL. Change of addresses must reach us by Monday 9 January 2023. If you do not provide us with a change of address by this date, your new address will not be taken into account when allocating places.

If you have not applied online, you will receive a letter which is sent in the second class post on offer day.
