Christmas Jumper Day

By A Ogilvie18th December 2015

Mortimer Primary was a whole lot more colourful today when so many of our children and staff supported Save the Children’s ‘Christmas Jumper Day’.

We held a whole school assembly to end this term and celebrate the start of the Christmas festivities and I am sure you will agree our hall looks very festive!

What a fantastic afternoon at the Y6 Christmas party. Well done to all the children, some super dancing and a very competitive game of musical chairs.

Digital Leaders

By A Ogilvie17th December 2015

Yesterday twelve children from Y4 visited the Apple store in Eldon Square to receive training for using Ipads.

The children worked with a team of experts and now hold skills that they will be able to bring back to school and share with other pupils.

As always, the children behaved exceptionally well and so were treat to a little detour to see Fenwicks window on the return home.

Sweet singing from the choir

17th December 2015A Ogilvie

Our school choir proudly has around 75 children who attend weekly rehearsals.

This time of year is always very busy with bookings in our local community. This Christmas the children have performed to a local community group at Westoe Methodist Church, Hill Head farm, The Baptist Tabernacle’s Friendly Circle and at St Hilda’s Church.

The children always receive wonderful praise wherever they go, not only for their singing but also their impeccable manners and behaviour.

A huge thank you to the children and also to Miss Middleton, Mrs Taylor and Mr Powell who work so hard with our choir.

Thank you for your feedback

By A Ogilvie17th December 2015

We always love to hear parent’s feedback to things going on in school but this week we were especially pleased to read the responses to Y5 Christmas books for reception.

Thank you for your kind words, we will be sharing these with the children and staff in Y5.

By A Ogilvie16th December 2015

We enjoy hearing about our children outside of school and it was great to receive this picture of one of our Y2 pupils making cakes for his Christmas party.

Have a great party Y2!

Spreading the Christmas message

By A Ogilvie16th December 2015

As part of a cross curricular project Y5 have created their own Christmas stories for reception children. Each book is dedicated to an individual child.

The Y5 children shared their finished books with the reception year group this week.

This is a project that has been repeated for many years and we see it as a great link between our older and younger children.

By A Ogilvie16th December 2015

This week it was Y5/6’s turn to impress at their Carol Concert at Westoe Methodist Church.

A fabulous mix of readings and carols certainly set the mood perfectly for the festive season.

Chance to Shine Primary School of the Year 2015

7th December 2015A Ogilvie

We held a special assembly last week on Wednesday 1st December to celebrate our recent award of Chance to Shine Primary School of the Year 2015. Chance to Shine is a national charity whose mission is to promote cricket throughout schools and communities.

The award recognises the outstanding progress that the school has made since Chance to Shine was introduced in our school in 2008 by Durham Cricket Boards Club and Coach Development Officer Philip Mellons. The school has excellent links with local cricket clubs, takes part in all the local interschool competitions, is played during our House Competitions and is now taught in PE lessons. The award was presented by Philip Mellons and England’s Women’s Team member Danielle Hazell.
