TT Rockstars – Maths Week

5th November 2021Mr Bennett

Dear parent/carer,

For Maths Week England we want to make maths exciting and high profile in our school. We will be taking part in a friendly competition involving schools from England from Monday 8th November to Thursday 11th November. It’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

For every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, your child will earn their class a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

All game modes (Gig, Garage, Studio, etc.) will count but only from games played between 7:30AM GMT and 7:30PM GMT on Monday 8th, Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th. To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60 minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60 minutes between 7.30am and 7.30pm. Once the player goes beyond 60 minutes of play on a given day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.

In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans. We suggest a limit of half an hour a day outside school hours – some will play more, some will play less.

Thanks for your support,

Mortimer Primary School

Fête française!

26th October 2021Mr Bennett

Fête française! French party!

On Friday Miss Beattie hosted a KS2 French party. The children were invited along as they had been working really hard in French lessons this half term. The children had the opportunity to indulge in some French cuisine: french fries, pain au chocolat, croissant, crepes, baguette, brie and lots of them even tried snails!!! Everyone had an excellent time and Mademoiselle Beattie is already excited to host the next one!

Bon travail a tous!

Secondary Admissions

Excellence for all
Secondary Admissions – 4.10.21
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6 Pupils                                      4 October 2021

Admission to Secondary School in September 2022

May I remind you that the closing date for returning your application form for your child to transfer into Secondary School next year is Monday 1 November 2021 at 4.30pm.

The easiest way to apply for your preferred school(s) is online by logging onto the Council web site at www.southtyneside.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

If you apply online, you will be notified on Tuesday 1 March 2022 our ‘offer day’ via your e-mail account.

Please be reminded that you must make a note of the email address that you use when applying as this will be the email address that will be used to send notification of your school offer.

Parents are also reminded that if they change address following the submission of an application form that they must notify us of this change in writing either by email to [email protected] or by post to the School Admissions Team, Town Hall and Civic Offices, South Shields, NE33 2RL. Change of addresses must reach us by Tuesday 4 January 2022. If you do not provide us with a change of address by this date, your new address will not be taken into account when allocating places.

If you have not applied online, you will receive a letter which is sent in the second class post on offer day.

If you do not have access to a computer you can obtain a hard copy of the application form by contacting the School Admissions Team on telephone numbers 0191 424 7767 or 0191 424 7706.

Failure to return or returning your application form late will reduce the chance of your child gaining a place at your preferred school.

Please be reminded, it is your responsibility to ensure your application form is completed and received by the deadline date of Monday 1 November 2021 at 4.30pm.

This is a generic message to all parents so if you have already applied for your child’s school place please ignore this letter.

Yours sincerely

Christine Henderson

Friends of the Readhead Park: Y4 Bird Box Update

13th July 2021A Stelling

This morning our Y4 pupils delivered their hand made bird boxes to the Friends of the Readhead Park and South Tyneside Council, who will now place them on designated trees around the park. A tree specialist has conducted a survey to say where the boxes would be best situated.

All materials were supplied by the Friends of the Readhead Park and, along with the 26 created for the park, we now have a  number of boxes to be placed around our own outside area too.

This project enriched the pupils’ science curriculum about habitats and many of the children have said this was one of their favourite activities of the year.

The children discovered an area of the park that is ear-marked to become a habitat area for minibeasts and other creatures. Year 4 will now be creating plans and designs which they will send to the developers.

All our bird boxes have a number in “Mortimer Blue” underneath them, can you find all 26?

School PE T-shirt order (Years 2-5)

9th July 2021A Stelling

This is only for current Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y5 pupils.

We encourage children in KS2 to wear their house colour t-shirt for PE lessons. Your child will know which house they are in and should be able to tell you the colour their house wears. (Year 2 parents have received a letter from you class teacher.)

Kirkpatrick – Green
Armstrong – Yellow
Redhead – Red

We do sell the school t-shirt with the school name on for £4.00. If you prefer, you can buy your own t-shirt of the same colour; it must be plain and have no writing or logos. (Football shirts are not allowed.)

Children generally only require one t-shirt for the whole academic year.

All orders must be placed by Thursday 21st July. We are unable to accept late orders processed.

1. Please use this Google Form to order your t-shirt
2. Then login to Parent Pay and pay for you t-shirt. We are unable to accept cash payments.

This will then be crossed matched with your order form.
Only t-shirts which are paid for will be ordered.

We have tried to keep the ordering process as simple as possible.

Any queries regarding t-shirts please contact the school office.

Please note we only order school PE t-shirts once a year from our supplier and are unable to order any once we return to school in September.

A Busy Week for Year 5

18th May 2021A Stelling

As part of your child’s Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education programme, Year 5 all received First Aid training from Tumbles and Grumbles. The children thoroughly enjoyed their respective training sessions and learned basic first aid, how to conduct CPR, develop an understanding of using a defibrillator and who to contact in an emergency.

As well as their First Aid training, Year 5 also had a visit to Simonside Climbing Wall. Outdoor and adventurous activities are a component of the PE curriculum that we follow in school and the children all had a fabulous time learning how to climb and belay safely.
