Red Nose Day, Winners and more – 12.3.21

12th March 2021Mr Bennett

Wow, where has the week gone??? It’s been extremely busy but so lovely to have everyone back in school. I think there will be some tired pupils and teachers tonight!

In today’s update:

  • Red Nose Day
  • Story Jar Competition
  • Free school meal vouchers
  • Fitness Factor
  • Social distancing

Red Nose Day

Friday March 19th

A non-uniform day is on the cards!

Children have the option of dressing as a superhero or wearing non-uniform (but to include something red). A donation of £1 through parent pay would be appreciated which will all go to the charity.

Children will take part in some Red Nose Day activities through the day.

Story Jar Competition

We would like to say an enormous well done to all of the children who participated in our story jar competition for World Book Day. We were so impressed with the photographs which were sent in and it was incredibly difficult to pick our favourites.

Congratulations to our two winners:

Key Stage 1 winner: Pippa Robson

Key Stage 2 winner: Dexter Carr

Each of our winners have been awarded with a bedtime story gift bag containing a new book and everything they need for a cosy evening tucked up reading. We hope you enjoy them!

See their creations at: https://mortimerprimary.co.uk/story-jar-winners/

Free School Meals

Families will be getting a £25 voucher per child to cover the Easter holidays from Wonde. They will be sent on 29th April.

Fitness Factor

Congratulations to all the children who successfully completed the Fitness Factor activities. The children worked very hard in all the different physical challenges and are worthy recipients of the certificates they have been awarded.

Check out our superstars at https://mortimerprimary.co.uk/fitness-factor/

Social Distancing

Please can we ask all parents to ensure that they are not blocking entrances when dropping off their children, especially around Reception and Nursery. Once your child is with their teacher please move away to allow others access. Thank you

Have a wonderful weekend

Looking back: No screen day 5th March

9th March 2021Mr Bennett

On Friday 5th March, we turned our screens off and went back to basics. Mrs Mackay organised some fab activities for all of the children in school around science and the outdoors.

Year 3 tended to the Mortimer Woodland – clearing up dead foliage and watering the trees.

Year 5 turned over the Minibeast garden and applied fresh soil as well as planting 10 begonias.

Whole school including Nursery – every child planted a bulb to be cared for at home to mark the end of Lockdown 3 and looking forward to a brighter future with every child back in school.

7.3.21 The Big Return…

7th March 2021Mr Bennett

7.3.21 The Big Return…

*As sent via email

Uniforms are washed, school shoes polished and alarms set…tomorrow sees the return of ALL pupils back to Mortimer Primary School. We know nerves will be jangling and hands held tightly as the start of school approaches. Rest assured we are ready for every child to return and we can’t wait!

We hope you and the children enjoyed the No Screen Friday and hopefully we can forget Remote Learning/Home Schooling for a good while now.

Tomorrow is the first part of the roadmap to ‘normal’ and we can all play our part. Please can parents social distance whilst dropping off and picking up, whilst also wearing masks if possible (adults only).

If you have any concerns or questions, please just get in touch (see below if you’ve missed the return details).

Enjoy your Sunday, stay safe and we will see you tomorrow!

Parent Hamper Raffle

Thank you to everyone who purchased entries to the spring parent raffle and helped us raise £587. That is fantastic and will all go back into providing excellent opportunities for all children.

The winners!

1st –  Lenix Meah

2nd – Teddy Keedy

3rd – Aris Livadaru

We have set out all the practicalities in our earlier emails/posts for tomorrow, but if you’ve missed anything then please see the links below:

World Book Day 2021

4th March 2021A Stelling

4.3.21 Happy World Book Day to you all!

Today is extra special because we are celebrating our love of books with children all over the world. We would have loved for you all to be in school with us, so instead, we are bringing World Book Day celebrations to you.

Did you hear Mrs Douglas on BBC Newcastle Radio this morning? She was talking about what World Book Day is like this year in school and at home! Have a listen here!

Have you heard the first ever World Book day song by MC Grammar?? How many stories can you spot in the song?

We have put together a collection of videos of staff from across the school sharing their favourite books. Get yourselves snuggled up, relax and choose a staff member to read you a story from the comfort of your own home. You could even listen to your teacher reading you a bedtime story.

It won’t be long until you are back in school and enjoying story time in class with your friends. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy sharing some of our favourite stories at home.

Have a great World Book Day!

World Book Day: Story Jar Competition
It is World Book Day on Thursday 4th March and we would for love you and your families to join us in celebrating by taking part in our Book Day competition. We would like your child to create a ‘Story Jar’. The challenge is to decorate a jar so that it represents a favourite book. We encourage children to be as creative and imaginative as they like! This competition will be completed at home and is open to all of pupils and families, regardless of whether they are remote learners or attending school. There will be a KS1 and KS2 winner.

When your child’s entry is complete, please post a photograph of their story jar in their online Google Classroom or to the learning platform used by your child’s year group (Dojo, Tapestry), with your child’s first name and class, or they can bring a photograph of their finished story jar to school on Monday. The winners will be announced early next week. We can’t wait to see your entries! Good luck!

2.3.21 Return to School March 8th

2nd March 2021Mr Bennett

Dear parents/carers,

Following the announcement of schools fully reopening, we would like to share our plans with you.

Mortimer Primary School will fully reopen on Monday 8th March and we look forward to seeing all children back in a full bustling school!

We have attached a full overview of our plans, with most elements staying the same since we started the year back in September. Please note the following.

  • School times remain the same as pre-Christmas.
  • Children should be in uniform.
  • Lunches need to be booked the week prior and by Wednesday via Parent Pay.
  • We ask that parents wear face coverings when on site dropping off and picking up children.
  • Staff are asked to wear face coverings in school when not able to social distance with other adults. This does not affect staff when teaching.

Again, we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the parents who have worked diligently to keep your pupils working at home. We know how hard this has been and we are so proud of how our pupils have engaged with the set work. You all deserve medals. No doubt it will be strange for the pupils who have been in school since January seeing the class rooms full and their class mates back at school. But what a great sight it will be!

Let’s hope this is the start to life returning to normal!

From all the staff – thank you for your support throughout these challenging times. It is appreciated.

Ps. As you drop your children off on Monday, please don’t cheer too loudly as you leave
