22.10.20 Year 6 COVID19 Positive Case and Closure

22nd October 2020Mr Bennett

22.10.20 Year 6 COVID19 Positive Case and Closure

Apologies for the late announcement- we have worked as quickly as we can.

Unfortunately, our text/app message service (Teachers2Parents) is unable to send messages this evening. They are aware of the fault and are trying to correct it.

Please share with parents of 6RD – Mrs Douglas so they can read the information regarding isolation of their child.

Direct messages will be sent as soon as the service comes back on line.

22.10.20 Year 6 (6RD only) COVID Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

There has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school in Year 6 and we need to update you with the following information.

We have carried out a full risk assessment having spoken to Local Authority Public Health Advisors.

The children of 6RD – Mrs Douglas, have been identified as in close contact with the case. In line with the national guidance we recommend that your child now stays at home and self-isolate until Wednesday 4th November. Your child must not go to school or any public areas: your child must remain at home. Further details of what your child needs to do are in NHS Guidance:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-for-coronavirus/nhs-test-and-trace-if-youve-been-in-contact-with-a-person-who-has-coronavirus/

All 6RD pupils are to return to school Wednesday 4th November, which is the end of the isolation period.

Siblings of pupils in 6RD and those children in 6FH and 6EM should attend school as normal.

Please take assurance that no children have tested positive.

We are asking you to do this to reduce the further spread of COVID 19 to others in the community. If you need support with isolation, please contact your local Council.

Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within the self-isolation period.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19

For most people, especially children, COVID-19 will be a mild illness.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of:

  • new continuous cough and/or
  • high temperature and/or
  • a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

If your child develops any of these symptoms of COVID-19, they should remain at home and arrangements should be made for them to be tested. At that time all other household members must also stay at home, not go to work, school or public areas, even for exercise.

Testing can be arranged by calling 119 or via the NHS website: nhs.uk/coronavirus

When the result of the child’s test is known further advice will be available.

How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19:

wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds

use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

wash your hands as soon as you get home

cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

Further information

Further information is available at nhs.uk/coronavirus

Yours sincerely

Mrs Cunningham

Headteacher

Y4KA Art Workshop 2020

21st October 2020A Stelling

Y4KA took part in a virtual workshop with artist Jane McCracken entitled ‘Where did all the animals go?’ In partnership with Born Free,Jane hopes to raise awareness of endangered animals in the hope of preventing extinction.

Mrs Allan’s class focused on species from the Oceania continent and drew their animal using only biro. No pencils or rubbers were allowed! Jane was very impressed with the children’s art work which will form part of a mural, along with other North East schools as well as schools from Kenya, Guyana and California, to be displayed in the Great North Museum in July 2021. It was a fabulous experience for the children who are looking forward to seeing their work displayed.

Cyber Choices – Parent Workshop (Online Event)

21st October 2020A Stelling

As part of our partnership with ICT in Schools at The Word, we are proud to be able to offer you the opportunity to take part in an online esafety event about cyber security for you and your family.

We live in a connected world that will only get bigger through the advance of new technologies such as the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence.  For most people, these technologies are taken for granted.  However, more and more young people are getting involved in cyber crime. Many do it for fun without realising the consequences of their actions – but the penalties can have an impact on their long-term future. Cyber crime is not a victimless crime and is taken extremely seriously by law enforcement.

We would like to invite you to join us on a live streamed session with an officer representative from  Northumbria Police to find out more about the world of cyber security, how to protect yourself and your family from falling foul of hackers, scammers or the law!

Sessions will last for about an hour with time for questions at the end.  The sessions will be held online using Google Meet on:

Tuesday 10th February at either 2pm or 5pm

To connect to the Google Meet use this link: https://meet.google.com/dyx-ppvh-xsp

This is part of a national initiative coordinated by the National Crime Agency and delivered by Cyber Choices teams within Regional Organised Crime Units and Local Police Force Cyber Teams.

The Cyber Choices network was created to help people make informed choices and to use their cyber skills in a legal way.  The aims of the programme are to:

  • Educate on the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and the possible consequences should they break the law.
  • Encourage individuals to make informed choices about their use of technology
  • Deter and/or divert individuals from cyber crime
  • Promote legal and ethical cyber opportunities

If you would like any further information or advice on Cyber Choices, please contact them through Cyber Choices on the NCA Website.

20.10.20 Discounted Chromebook Offer

We are now able to bring you a time limited offer to purchase a discounted Chromebook from an educational supplier via the school.
Chromebooks are very much like laptops but smaller versions and run Google’s own software. They are highly portable and work well with the internet!

We have tried to make this as easy as possible for both parents and the school. Mortimer Primary will not make any profit from this offer. We are simply responding to the expressions of interest we’ve had.
Please read the letter carefully as we will be operating via the terms and conditions set out, which must be agreed on ordering.
