Week 17 – A letter from Mrs Cunningham (Wednesday)

15th July 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.

Can you guess what these are:
– These are some of nature’s beautiful treasures.
– They are colourful.
– They brighten up our classrooms and homes.
– Many of them have a wonderful fragrance.
– People like to give them on birthdays, anniversaries and St Valentine’s Day.

Yes, flowers! It is a really busy time for people who grow flowers as they need watering so often at the minute. I bet some of you have wonderful flowers in your garden or in pots. I know sunflowers are very popular. Yesterday, my dad gave me a pot of Sweet Peas that he has been growing for me. Sweet Peas are lovely and smell so good…….nothing like peas!!!! Yuk!!

There are colours galore in the garden today,
The scent of the flowers brings the bees out to play.
There are flowers that cling and climb up the wall,
Daisies so tiny and sunflowers so tall.
There are flowers we pick to show that we care;
These are the treasures we all have to share.

By Jan Edmunds

Have a wonderful Wednesday,

Mrs Cunningham

Week 17 – A letter from Mrs Cunningham (Tuesday)

14th July 2020A Stelling

Good morning everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.

Can you remember what you were doing on 4th September 2012? Well, our Y6 can, as it was their first day at nursery. Nearly 8 years ago! This week we are saying ‘Goodbye’ to Y6 as they prepare for the next part of their educational adventure. There is not another stage in education which we invest so many years in. Not another stage in education where we see many changes in the children we teach. Not another stage in education where the pupils are treated as part of a family.

You have all been amazing throughout your time at Mortimer. A true inspiration and a credit to your parents. As a headteacher, it is so rewarding when I hear positive comments from visitors into school or from people who you have met during school trips. All of whom comment on your exemplary behaviour and your mature attitude. To say I am proud of you all is an understatement.
To my Y6 mams and dads who have been part of this journey. A huge “Thank you” for lending me your fabulous children and entrusting us with them. They are an absolute testament to you.

I think that the epitome of a Mortimer pupil is one who is kind, polite, hard working and resilient. One who represents the school in such a positive way and one who gives that little bit more at all times. So a special “Well done and Thank you” to all of the monitors who have added to the smooth running of the school. My House Captains and Vice House Captains who have worked so well to keep the family spirit and competitive edge to Key Stage 2. To all of you who have represented the school whether it be through sports, music, maths or STEM.

This year has been so strange and so surreal. Something has happened that we never ever thought would happen. The last pandemic was in 1918. None of us thought we would ever go through the same again in this modern day age. You have shown such resilience so much strength and such a caring attitude in these past few scary ‘lockdown’ weeks. Hopefully, you have come through stronger, with more resilience and with added empathy. We must look to find the good from this.

You have a bright future ahead of you and I know that you will all grow into confident, kind and gracious adults. We like to think that we have given you wings at Mortimer, and now it’s your time to fly…and you will!

Good luck in everything you do. I have no doubt you will all be superstars.

Much love,

from the ever so proud Mrs Cunningham

Great fun was had by all!

Looking for a reason to bake a cake?

10th July 2020Mr Bennett
Looking for a reason to bake a cake?
From Deborah Rodenby – Youth Liaison Officer at Nexus
In celebration of Metro’s 40th anniversary which takes place on Tuesday 11 August, we would love your pupils to be involved as part of our Birthday celebrations.
What is a birthday without a very special birthday cake.  We would love your pupils to design and make a birthday cake, any cake and the best bit is they get to eat it.
If they could send their photos or videos of their cakes to myself, so that we can share all of their lovely designs on social media, as part of our birthday celebrations.
Deborah Rodenby [email protected] closing date 31st July.
I hope they enjoy their cakes.
Kind regards
Deborah

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.

It’s Friday and nearly the weekend….and the weather looks like it will be nice! Can I set you a little challenge for the weekend? 10 things to do…… the tricky bit is proving it!!
1. Sing a song
2. Give and get a cuddle
3. Tell a joke
4. Find a leaf
5. Find 5 red things
6. Learn to say your name backwards
7. Do 5 star jumps
8. Pull a funny face
9. Put a hat, scarf and gloves on
10. Smile
Write it down, or draw pictures, draw 10 boxes and tick when you’ve done it, maybe take pictures, or post it on our social media or keep the evidence until you see me and you can then hand it to me. Be creative. I’ll be doing them too!
Have a wonderful weekend

Week 16 – A letter from Mrs Cunningham (Thursday)

9th July 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.

Look what arrived at Mortimer today!!

Mrs Mackay and all of you have been working hard to do all we can to look after woodlands, visit woodlands to investigate habitats, how to save fossil fuels and think about  what we can do to  look after the future of woodlands. You might have noticed the start of our own Mortimer Woodland. It is really quite small at the minute, but I am hoping to visit Mortimer in 20 years time when I’m a bit older to wander through the trees and hopefully see some wildlife…….now where is it? It is on our turning circle! Some children and some mams and dads came to help us plant some very small trees, which will eventually grow into a fantastic woodland. We are hoping to plant more in November.

So because we hold the gold award, I want you to try your skills in answering some questions that NewsRound have made.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52545218

Have a thoughtful Thursday.

Mrs Cunningham
