The 2ES Parent Assembly was originally scheduled for Friday 2nd December 9am. Unfortunately, we need to cancel this date and reschedule.
We will let you know at the earliest opportunity when the new date will be, however we do know that this will now be next year in 2023.

It really is starting to get very busy in school with lots going on before we hit December.
The week ahead
After last weeks cancelled Monday night Girls’ Football – we are glad to say that it will be on tomorrow. Year 6 will have experts from The Word visiting on Tuesday to take them deeper into ICT. On Friday, 6AS and Mrs Stelling will lead us through another exciting parent assembly, we will see you for a 9am start.

| WOW – Walk to School Challenge
Well done Mortimer! The results of the Autumn WOW Walk of Fame Challenge are in! Mortimer Primary School topped the local leader board for South Tyneside and finished 40th on the national leader board (for England)! There were more than 900 schools taking part so congratulations to all of the pupils who took part, what a fantastic achievement! WOW is a pupil-led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day using the interactive WOW Travel Tracker. If they travel sustainably (walk/wheel, cycle or scoot) once a week for a month, they get rewarded with a badge. It’s that easy! On average, WOW schools see a 30% REDUCTION IN CAR JOURNEYS taken to the school gate and a 23% INCREASE IN WALKING RATES. |
| Maths Week England – starts Monday 14th November
We’re celebrating Maths Week England by taking part in a friendly times tables (and division) competition. The competition runs from 07:30 GMT Monday 14th November to 19:30 GMT Wednesday 16th November. It’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com. Children can play in any game mode with every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, earning themselves, their class and the school a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average. To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60-minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60-minutes between 07:30 GMT and 19:30 GMT on 07:30 GMT Monday 14th November to 19:30 GMT Wednesday 16th November. Once the player goes beyond 60-minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition. In the spirit of the competition, please don’t play on their behalf but by all means encourage and support them to the extent that it doesn’t cause high stress levels or impact on family plans. |
| Anti-Bullying Week Starts Monday 14th November
Odd Socks Day marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week. It will take place on Monday 14th November. Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity to encourage children to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! There is no pressure to wear the latest fashion or to buy expensive costumes. All children have to do to take part is wear odd socks to school, it couldn’t be simpler! |
| Hospitality and Hope
Hospitality and Hope is a shop at Horsley Hill Square for those that may need some financial support. People have the chance to get £30 worth of food shopping once a week for just £4. No proof of benefits needed, it’s ran in good faith. If anyone wants to access this and need the help no questions asked, working people can get this too. Only proof to be shown is something with name and address to show they live within 2 miles of Horsely Hill. The shop is called: Your Community Shop, 6-7 Horsley Hill Square, NE34 7HE Mon, Wed, Fri 10am until 1pm no vouchers needed just £4 cash each time. |

A selection of the boys’ football team, consisting of both Year 5 and 6 boys, represented our school at the Bart Rippon Cup at Temple Park today. Although the boys did not make it through to the finals they played exceptionally well and had a fantastic day.
As always their sportsmanship was brilliant and we were proud to watch them as a team.

The Governors and I are very pleased to announce that Mr Bennett, our current Deputy Head, will be taking over as Head Teacher of Mortimer Primary from January 2023.
I know he is looking forward to continuing to work with our pupils, staff and parents.

Well done to our Year 5 and 6 Girls’ Football Teams, who competed recently in their first tournament of this academic year.
We have two mixed ability teams, who took part in the South Tyneside Sports Girls’ League. They will face the challenge of two more tournaments this year to fight for the league champion position.
As ever, our girls gave a valiant performance and came away with some impressive results.
We were very proud of their conduct and even received praise of how fantastic their sportsmanship and their manners were from other schools.
Well done ladies!

| Secondary Admissions – 18 October 2022 |
| This is a generic message to all parents, from South Tyneside Council, so if you have already applied for your child’s school place please ignore this letter. Please also note that the primary school have no dealings with secondary applications.
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6 Pupils Admission to Secondary School in September 2023 May I remind you that the closing date for returning your application form for your child to transfer into Secondary School next year is Monday 31 October at 4.30pm. The easiest way to apply for your preferred school(s) is online by logging onto the Council web site at www.southtyneside.gov.uk/schooladmissions. If you apply online, you will be notified on Wednesday 1 March 2023 our ‘offer day’ via your e-mail account. Please be reminded that you must make a note of the email address that you use when applying as this will be the email address that will be used to send notification of your school offer. Parents are also reminded that if they change address following the submission of an application form that they must notify us of this change in writing either by email to [email protected] or by post to the School Admissions Team, Town Hall and Civic Offices, South Shields, NE33 2RL. Change of addresses must reach us by Monday 9 January 2023. If you do not provide us with a change of address by this date, your new address will not be taken into account when allocating places.
