Well done to our Y5 and Y6 children who performed two beautiful Carol concerts on Monday and Tuesday this week.
As some of you may remember, Mrs Lawrenson set a competition for Years 5 and 6 to design a canvas bag which represents our school. The winner of the competition was a child in Miss Fenwick’s class.
These bags will only be available for KS2 to buy as KS1 have book bags. The bags will be able to be stored in the children’s trays which will help to tidy up the cloakrooms. A sample of the bag is shown below.
The bags are £4.50 each and if you wish to order one, any orders would need to be sent back to Mrs Lawrenson before 20th December.
Nursery have designed a tea-towel which is available to buy for £4 each or two for £7. Orders can be placed direct with nursery staff.
A huge congratulations to our Y5/6 lego club who took part in the Regional Finals of the First Lego League hosted by ICT in Schools at The Word held at South Shields Museum.
This was a very tough competition consisting of many elements including programing a robot to complete tricky challenges on an obstacle board, a technical round to explain coding of the robot, an unseen team work round and a presentation about a project that they have researched and developed a solution to. Many of the elements of the competition scoring are based around fundamentals of communication and team work.
We can proudly say that our team brought home a trophy for best presentation, they had researched a problem and came up with a solution to help reduce water wastage from taps.
The competition on the day was fierce with our children competing not only against primary school children but also secondary schools.
It was a fully packed day but they still managed to sneak in time for an ice-cream as a reward for their hard work and a look around the museum.
As always, we were very proud of our children, their behaviour, attitude and team work skills were all commented on by other schools and a team of judges; they were excellent ambassadors for our school. Well done Mortimer Master Builders!
Good luck to our lego team tomorrow taking part in the regional finals of the Junior First Lego League.
They have worked very hard as a team for many months and we wish them well as they approach competition day!
That’s all the presents for our campaign away, all 155! Thank you so much again for your generosity towards this great cause.
Thank you to everyone who donated a present to the Metro Radio Mission Christmas appeal. As always, we are astounded by the generosity of the families from our school.
With the arrival of snow today our younger children were able to adapt their lessons to experience some outside learning. For many of our younger children it was the first time they had experience of quite heavy snow to play with.
Reception took the opportunity to practice number and letter fun with games outside and then brought snow inside to conduct their own science experiments.
Our older children have all at various times of the day had a chance to go and play and enjoy the weather in a safe, comfortable way.
Weather is set to be very cold for the next few days, please make sure your child has a warm coat, hat, scarf and gloves just incase we can go outside and enjoy the season.

Our school council were proudly invited to be guests of honour at the grand opening of the new Co-op convenience store on Mortimer Road.
The children would like to say thank you for the invitation and the very generous goody bags they received.
