The message of Christmas

By A Ogilvie13th December 2016

As mentioned in an earlier post, all of our Y5 children have been creating Christmas books retelling the story of the Nativity for reception children, which can be kept as a  special keepsake.

This project takes part over a number of weeks and involves the children meeting each other, learning a little about each other and spending time sharing stories. It is a lovely link between some of our older and younger children and is enjoyed by all.

We have also been so pleased with the feedback from parents, here are just a few of the comments we have received.

“The book created for Finely is lovely – read it tonight and he loves it. It’s a great idea.”

“I absolutely love the book Theo brought home tonight, which had been written by one of the older children! It made me have a little tear. Theo is so happy with it and will treasure it forever. I absolutely love the idea of the older children sharing work and also reading to reception children.”

By A Ogilvie6th December 2016

This Christmas, Mortimer Primary School are supporting Metro Radio’s Cash for Kids ‘Mission Christmas’.

Cash for Kids is a local charity and their mission is to support local children who are disabled, disadvantaged, sick or suffering from abuse or neglect.  This is for children aged 0 – 18 years.  All the funds for the charity are raised and re-distributed locally to individuals, families and other charities dedicated to improving the lives of young people.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all who have donated to this great cause, we have received an amazing 295 presents and can’t wait to hand them over to the charity,

Thank you

Infant Nativity

By A Ogilvie6th December 2016

Today it was the turn of our younger children to take to the stage. The first of three nativity performances, the children performed confidently and with a smile.

We think they were all fabulous!

Y5/6 Carol Concert

By A Ogilvie5th December 2016

Y5 and Y6 had a super day today performing at Westoe Methodist Church. Beautiful singing and clear, loud reading made for a fabulous carol concert from our older children.

The children have one more performance tomorrow for Y6 parents, the concert starts promptly at 1:45pm.

Y6AS visit to The Open Zone @ The Word

By A Ogilvie1st December 2016

Y6AS had a fantastic day working with the The Open Zone team at The Word yesterday.

A day linked to their topic of Victorian’s in history, the children had written a history playscript to record using green screen technology while they were there.

They had a tour of the new building and also got to make Christmas decorations in the Fab Lab using laser cutting and saw how a design could also be created using the 3D printer.

The children enjoyed coding activities and came back with a buzz for the new building.

Thank you to the team for inviting our children for the day.

Christmas Story Project: Stage 1

By A Ogilvie12th November 2016

This week saw the start of a project between reception and Y5, this is a successful task that Mortimer has proudly ran for many years.

Younger children have been paired with an older child from Y5, they have shared books together and found out a little about each other. Now the Y5 students will write and create a dedicated, personalised book telling the Christmas story for the reception child. This is a lovely way for our younger children to connect with our older pupils.
