As part of our Religious Education curriculum Year 5 have been studying Islam. To end our topic we thought it would be a great idea to visit our local mosque. Yusef, a teacher at the mosque, explained to us about what Muslims believe and showed us around the mosque. Two children enjoyed dressing in traditional Islamic clothing that men and women wear when they pray.
The school started the year very well as we were awarded the Chance to Shine Primary School of the Year award. The school has had another extremely successful cricket season. Our A team were South Tyneside champions for the third year running and came fifth in the county finals. The team this year probably fielded the strongest bowling side that have ever represented Mortimer.
Our A and B teams played to the best of their ability over the season. The boys displayed a high standard of sportsmanship and were excellent ambassadors for their school. The A team did especially well winning most of their games and finishing third in their league.
Our four Fun and Fit Champions did a fantastic job this year working with our Year 3 and Year4 children. They played a variety of games on a lunchtime which the children thoroughly enjoyed.
Y4 have had a fantastic week being pirates. Their costumes were amazing and creative, we thank parent’s for their support as ever.
Children even had the chance to fence like true pirates.
Well done to our Y4 children who competed in South Tyneside School’s Sandcastle challenge.
A great day was had by all and our children were, as always, excellent ambassadors for our school.
Thank you to Miss Anderson, who supervised the children and helped them with their design.
