Y6 – And just like that it’s done!

12th May 2022Mr Bennett

Dear all,

The final ‘end of KS2 paper’ or ‘SAT’ has been completed today and we couldn’t be any prouder of every single child. They have given 100% and that is all we could ask.

But it is not just this week, but in the weeks and months leading to this point. Their resilience after two challenging years has shone through and no matter what results come back, the children are a credit to themselves. They deserve success now and in the future.

Throughout the week, every test has been taken in their stride and the camaraderie between the pupils has been heart-warming. Weirdly, this week is often one children remember for the positive feelings and being part of the group taking on the challenge and conquering it together. They have done this in spades!

We understand that SATs don’t measure their ability to be creative, play sports, be musical, be kind or measure how gifted they are. But the children have taken them as a chance to shine in reading, English and maths. Their attitude this week cannot be questioned and this bodes them well for the challenges of secondary school and beyond.

So it leaves us just to say “Your children are amazing” …but I’m guessing you already knew this!

Thank you for your support not only this week, but throughout your child’s journey with us.

Well done Year 6!

Y6 Leavers Hoodies – 6.5.22
Mortimer Primary Leavers Hoodies!

There will be navy hoodies available to order for the children leaving Y6 in July. The school logo will be on the front and names will be placed in the shape of the year on the reverse.

Hoodies will cost £15 (Payable via Parent Pay). Children will be permitted to wear these tops for the last two weeks of the summer term before they leave instead of their normal school jumper or cardigan.

We have some sample sizes in school from the supplier to be used as a gauge for size. Children will be able to assess which size they need with the support of staff in school and bring this home for you to place your order.

Please note: Orders are non-refundable once placed with the supplier.

How to order:

  1. Your child tries on a sample in school and brings home a suggested size
  2. Click on this link to make your order.
  3. Go to Parent Pay and pay for your order.

You will receive an email receipt for your order form from Mortimer and a separate receipt for your payment from Parent Pay.

Orders must be placed and paid for by Wednesday 25th May. Any orders received but not paid for will not be completed after this date. No later orders will be accepted.

Wake Up! Shake Up!

All children should wait at the doors to the school main entrance with their adult. Children are welcomed into school by a member of staff and escorted to the hall. School uniform should be worn.

Collection of KS1/EYFS Children at the end of the day

Please can you notify the office or send a note to the teacher informing us if you require a different adult to collect your child.

Year 1 Water Bottles

As the weather warms up, we recommended children having a named water bottle in school to help them access a drink throughout the day.

More Swimming success!

Chloe Brotherton continues to make waves in the swimming pool. Competing at the North East Regions in Leeds last weekend, covering teams from the Scottish Borders to South Yorkshire she made finals in all three of her events. The highlight – Chloe came away as 100m back stroke regional Champion! Well done Chloe!

Sunshine Day Friday 8th April

1st April 2022Mr Bennett

Sunshine Day Friday 8th April

https://www.thesunshinefund.org/

It is reported that the North East has some of the highest numbers of children registered as disabled in the UK. It is estimated that there are over 18,000 children living with a disability.

The Sunshine Fund are a North East based charity that enhances the lives of local children with disabilities by funding equipment to meet their specialist needs. They support babies, children and young adults up until their 19th birthday by funding equipment such as specialist beds, wheelchairs, trikes, IT and sensory equipment that is not available through the NHS, local authorities or any other sources.

As a school, our aim through next week is to raise awareness of equality and diversity in school through assemblies and class discussion. Friday is sunshine day where we will wear something yellow to brighten up school and hopefully our day.

KS2 children will all be bringing home a sunflower which the charity has provided.

Parents can donate to the charity if they wish through Parent Pay.

Please watch the video of Aaron, an amazing Mortimer pupil who has something we all need to hear!

Latest News – 29.3.22
Hello everyone!
The clocks have gone forward, we’ve just had a lovely sunny weekend and Easter is on its way!
It’s just over 2 years ago that school and life changed completely due to COVID. Whilst we have come through so much it still feels like we have a way still to go. A massive thank you for all your support during these challenging times and it was lovely to see so many happy faces during the parents’ evenings. We appreciate your continued support.
Anyway…there’s lots to tell you about!

Milk money

Summer term milk money is now live to order on Parent pay.  If your child would like milk in the Summer term please make payment before Tuesday 26th April.  Payments after that date WILL  NOT be accepted.

Nuts in school
Nut Products are not allowed in school.  There have been a few incidences where children are bringing Nutella into school, which is not allowed due to severe nut allergies.  Also we are a Healthy School and hold an award as such, so request that sweets are not put into packed lunches.

Choir
Choir is not on next week.

Eggs! We need eggs!
With Easter fast approaching, the egg decorating competition will be back. Some may call these paste eggs!
Year 6 pupils are asked to bring a hard boiled egg for Thursday.
Reception to year 5 classes are asked to bring in for Friday.
4AS should not bring one as they will be supplied with a suitable egg.
Top tip from Mr Douglas…
“I always suggest that the children bring an egg in with a single colour base coat of paint if they know they’ll need it otherwise the first hour of the day is about as fun as watching paint dry!”
Wise words! So add a base coat at home if you want!
