Y2 Green Fingered Helpers

15th March 2022A Stelling

Some of our Year 2 children helped plant our Minibeast area. Year 2 are learning all about plants this term and they were the perfect helpers due to their knowledge. They told Mrs Mackay and Mr Maltby all about what plants need to grow and they even talked about how the worms in the soil told us that the area was a good place to plant in.

We will look forward to seeing what insects our new flowers attract and thanks to the Year 2 helpers, the whole school can benefit from a much brighter Minibeast garden.

11th March 2022Mr Bennett
Mortimer Primary School
Excellence for all
Parents’ Evening – 11.3.22
Dear parents/carers,
Our next parents’ evening sessions take place on Monday 21st and Monday 28th March. this includes nursery to year 6 pupils.
The booking system will open at 6pm on Sunday 13.3.22.
We will again be using the Teachers2Parent booking system which was successfully used last year. The appointments are 10mins in length and offer a chance to hear an update on how your child is progressing at this point in the year. If you wish to go into something in depth, please organise a separate meeting with your child’s teacher to discuss it.
For nursery parents, we will also be offering some times earlier in the day.
How it works
We will send a link to your mobile phone or email address which will take you to our online
booking system to select a time convenient for you. Please follow these simple steps to
book your slot:
1. Click the link that you receive through text and/or email to take you to the
confirmation page. You will need internet access to do this.
2. Enter your child’s first name to continue. If you have more than one child, any of
their first names will work.
3. Next you will be taken to the booking page. This will show your children alongside all
of the teachers that you can book in with.
4. Click ‘Please Choose’ to be shown a list of available times that you can click to book.
This will even give you the option to add any notes that you might want the teacher
to see before the meeting.
5. After you have entered any notes, please click ‘Book this Slot’ to complete your
booking. When the button has turned green you know your booking has been made.
6. At any time before the Parents Evening, you can click the link on your phone or email
again to check your booking time or even un-book by clicking the green booked
button.
Make sure you book your parents evening ASAP to ensure you get the best time for you.
Many thanks

World Book Day 2022

4th March 2022A Stelling

What a fantastic World Book Day we all had yesterday! We would like to say an enormous thank you for putting so much effort into your costumes – there were some amazing outfits! It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved and there were some great activities going on around school too. From Mad Hatter tea parties to creating book characters out of vegetables, it is safe to say that a lot of fun was had by all.  Our pupils have also had the chance to visit our Scholastic book fair. Although it is operating a little differently this year, we are pleased that so many children have enjoyed browsing the books and we have already had lots of orders brought back to school. If you would like to order any books for your child, please pay via the link on the wishlist sheet (you do not need to input the name of the book), and ensure the wishlists are returned by Monday 7th March with the relevant reference number. Thank you for your support.

Latest News – 4.3.22
I’m not sure where the first week has gone, but it has been a great one!
Just a few things to keep you up to date with as we race towards Easter and the summer term.
Have a great weekend and stay safe.
World Book Day
A great day was had by all. Some photos should be appearing on our website very soon! Thanks to you the parents and grandparents for helping to pick and make some great costumes.
Red Noses
We have Red Noses on sale via Parent Pay. Children will receive them during the week of Red Nose Day (Friday 18th March 2022).
Any unsold can be purchased from the school office in the week leading up.
Climate Change Show
Today children in years 1 – 6 watch a special show. The show itself was set by the seaside and within a great storyline plus humour and interaction. There were sea creatures characters and info on the weather, tides, the moon, recycling and what we can do to look after our environment. Mostly, it was fun (even the rain)!
Parents’ Evening
Details of how appointments will be organised will be with you next week!
Urgent Care

9am until 9pm opening hours for South Tyneside Urgent Care for Children service

With effect from Monday 7 March, the nurse-led service at South Tyneside District Hospital will be open every day from 9am until 9pm.  The temporary change has been necessary due to unforeseen staffing challenges.  Parents are being reassured that the service will continue to be available for 12 hours every day to see and treat the vast majority of children who attend hospital with urgent, but not life threatening, problems.

The temporary change means the service will open one hour later at 9am (instead of 8am) and close one hour earlier each day at 9pm (instead of 10pm).  Please see attached updated NHS information leaflet.

Nursery/Reception Book Fair Update

28th February 2022Mr Bennett
Mortimer Primary School
Excellence for all
Book Fair Update – 28.2.22
Dear all
This week, we arranged to host a Scholastic book fair. Unfortunately, we have been let down and have been sent an extremely limited number of books to sell. We are so disappointed that the children won’t get the typical book fair experience and unfortunately, we are going to have to cancel our morning book fairs for Nursery and Reception parents.
However, we would still like to give pupils the chance to browse the selection on offer as every book sold will raise money for us to purchase books for school. If there is a book your child likes the look of, they may come home with a ‘wishlist’ which you can use to pay for the book online, if you wish to order it. Please return all wishlists back to school, so we can submit the order on your behalf.
Thank you for your support.

Hello all,
Christmas is now a distant memory and lighter nights are rolling in (however so are the storms!). Its been a challenging half term due to COVID and staff absence but we have made it through to the other end! Our staff have been amazing, wearing lots of different hats to keep everything going.
We are now seeing an increase in events outside of school with pupils now getting more opportunities to attend sport and arts activities. Fingers crossed this only continues to grow. We have also been able to welcome parents back into school for assemblies, possibly 2 years since the last! We hope you’ve enjoyed this little bit of normal…
We close today for half term and will reopen on Monday 28th February.
Stay safe and thanks for your continued support.

SEND Travel Training

South Tyneside Council want to make sure that young people are able to live as independently as possible. This includes being able to travel safely to and from their school/setting as well as visiting and meeting their friends by themselves, using different ways of getting there including walking, cycling or going on a bus.

They are exploring different models of Independent Travel Training and would like to capture the views of parents, pupils and staff within schools to inform future commissioning plans.
