Key Workers’ EYFS Bubble Monster Party

10th July 2020A Stelling

Our Key Workers’ EYFS Bubble had a great “Monster Party” to conclude their topic on monsters this week. They made special hats, played games, decorated  monster biscuits, enjoyed monster munch crisps and even went on a monster walk around the school and scared a number of staff members.

Great fun was had by all!

Looking for a reason to bake a cake?

10th July 2020Mr Bennett
Looking for a reason to bake a cake?
From Deborah Rodenby – Youth Liaison Officer at Nexus
In celebration of Metro’s 40th anniversary which takes place on Tuesday 11 August, we would love your pupils to be involved as part of our Birthday celebrations.
What is a birthday without a very special birthday cake.  We would love your pupils to design and make a birthday cake, any cake and the best bit is they get to eat it.
If they could send their photos or videos of their cakes to myself, so that we can share all of their lovely designs on social media, as part of our birthday celebrations.
Deborah Rodenby [email protected] closing date 31st July.
I hope they enjoy their cakes.
Kind regards
Deborah

Week 16 – A letter from Mrs Cunningham (Friday)

10th July 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.

It’s Friday and nearly the weekend….and the weather looks like it will be nice! Can I set you a little challenge for the weekend? 10 things to do…… the tricky bit is proving it!!
1. Sing a song
2. Give and get a cuddle
3. Tell a joke
4. Find a leaf
5. Find 5 red things
6. Learn to say your name backwards
7. Do 5 star jumps
8. Pull a funny face
9. Put a hat, scarf and gloves on
10. Smile
Write it down, or draw pictures, draw 10 boxes and tick when you’ve done it, maybe take pictures, or post it on our social media or keep the evidence until you see me and you can then hand it to me. Be creative. I’ll be doing them too!
Have a wonderful weekend
Mrs Cunningham

Week 16 – A letter from Mrs Cunningham (Thursday)

9th July 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.

Look what arrived at Mortimer today!!

Mrs Mackay and all of you have been working hard to do all we can to look after woodlands, visit woodlands to investigate habitats, how to save fossil fuels and think about  what we can do to  look after the future of woodlands. You might have noticed the start of our own Mortimer Woodland. It is really quite small at the minute, but I am hoping to visit Mortimer in 20 years time when I’m a bit older to wander through the trees and hopefully see some wildlife…….now where is it? It is on our turning circle! Some children and some mams and dads came to help us plant some very small trees, which will eventually grow into a fantastic woodland. We are hoping to plant more in November.

So because we hold the gold award, I want you to try your skills in answering some questions that NewsRound have made.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52545218

Have a thoughtful Thursday.

Mrs Cunningham

8.7.20 Update

8th July 2020Mr Bennett
8.7.20 Update
Thank you for helping make Phase Three happen this week. Key worker parents have been brilliant using the ramp and adjusting to the new times. Thank you parents for moving off site as quickly as possible. All children have quickly settled in and have enjoyed some time with their teacher and class mates. Next week sees years 2 and 4 return for their two days.
There are just a few things to update you on this week.
Reports
Our new look reports are being posted out this week. We do explain what the reports cover, but please bear in mind that they only focus on your child’s year till the 20th March.
Please complete the paper based receipt or alternatively use the electronic form, which will be shared later in the week, to let us know you have received your child’s report.
Your child’s new class teacher, for next year, will also be noted on the report receipt.
Free School Meal Vouchers
Vouchers for the summer holidays have been ordered as one batch worth 6 weeks and one batch worth 1 week, both will go out on 13th July (you will also have your normal week voucher that date too). So basically you will have 3 lots of voucher codes to redeem.
Could all parents redeem their codes as soon as they receive them and if they have any problems to email the school as soon as possible so this can be sorted before the end of term.
Year 6 – Leavers Day
The final week for year 6 offers a chance to attend for a day with the whole class (split into smaller groups) and take part in their leavers assembly. Children can stay for the whole day (the majority are) or leave after the assembly (a parent will need to collect).
Some things to note about the final day:
· We will keep the same times 9:10 on the yard with a 3:30 finish.
· Children can bring their own picnic (no sharing items) to enjoy during the day.
6RD – Monday 13th July
6FH – Tuesday 14th July
6EM – Wednesday 15th July
If you haven’t signed up yet, you can by using the following form.
https://forms.gle/D4JgropJfP9NrKDU6
Year 6 Music
Please return clarinets, flutes, violins or cellos to the school.
If children are planning to continue lessons in Y7 their instrumental teacher will meet up with them at the beginning of term.
Could all tutor books be returned too, including Abracadabra recorder books.
September 2020
With new guidance to digest, we are busy working on our plans for opening in September. We will communicate these with you when possible. We will continue to update you via our website news and Facebook group.
Our latest newsletter is being given to pupils in school and will also be shared electronically soon.
Reminder
School is closed to all pupils Friday 10th and 17th July. There is no Key Worker care on these days.

Thank you for your continuing support.
