The results are in! All of our Key Worker children who attended school over the five days that the games took place did very well. In South Tyneside 18 schools and 260 children took part. Our school placed 6th out of the 18 and one of our Year 2 pupils ranked 5th out of 260. This is a huge achievement. Daily statistics collected throughout the week showed that our children performed very highly in individual events from Nursery through to Year 6. Well done children and staff.
Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again,
Day 2 of the poetry challenge. Today there are two poems. Both of them are very old, as I can remember learning them when I was very little…..and that’s quite a long time ago. They didn’t make much sense at the time. It wasn’t until I was older did I realise what I was actually saying and what they both meant. You might need a bit of help from an adult with these, but let’s hope you like them as much as I do.
Algy met a bear,
The bear met Algy,
The bear was bulgy,
The bulge was Algy!
Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you?
If the words sound queer and funny to your ear, a little bit jumbled and jivey
Sing “Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy, A kid will eat ivy too, wouldn’t you!”
Mad!!

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again,
This week I am going to set you all a little challenge, which your mams and dads might want to do too. How about learning some poetry? Then on Friday you can test yourself to see how much you have remembered. I might even ask you some questions, then you can see who the winner is in your house.
I was out for a run yesterday and ended up running along the coast road and then down to the beach. I love watching waves. So I stopped to catch my breath and enjoy the wild waves of yesterday. Every time I go to the beach (which is very often) the waves are always different. So, that’s the theme of the poem for today.
There are big waves and little waves,
Green waves and blue,
Waves you jump over,
Waves you dive through,
Waves that rise up
Like a great water wall,
Waves that swell softly
And don’t break at all,
Waves that can whisper,
Waves that can roar,
And tiny waves that run at you

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.
Today at work I sorted a shelf in my office which is called ‘children’s books’. I found myself flicking through lots of books which I have not read in a while. I know we all love Roald Dahl, but I had forgotten just how good he was with words. Here a few quotes.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you look like, so long as somebody loves you.” The Witches
“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.” Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
“If you are good, life is good.” Matilda
“Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world” Matilda

“It’s impossible to make your eyes twinkle if you aren’t feeling twinkly yourself.” (Danny, the Champion of the World)
I think many of these quotes could be linked to us all at the minute. Maybe you can have a look to see if you have a book written by Roald Dahl in your house. You do not need to read it all if you don’t want to, maybe just have a flick through and see if you find any sentences that either make you laugh or make you think.

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.
You have made me laugh with some your grandparents names. Maybe George is not that bad after all!
Well what has happened to the lovely weather? That sunshine better come back soon. At least the flowers and the grass will be thankful for all the rain. A long time ago there was a film made called Singing in the Rain. It was made in 1952 and starred someone called Gene Kelly. In one part of the film he dances and splashes in puddles. It is such a good film. I have watched it many times. Here are the words and the video. I think you will enjoy it.

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunningham here again.
You have made me laugh with your cardboard box dens. So Funny.
I hope you and your mams and dads and all your relatives are well, and maybe you have had a chance to meet up with them. My mam and dad are a bit old, so I am still just waving through the window at them. Louise and Rachel are missing their nana and granda too. Today I will let l you into a little secret. My girls call their granda ‘George’, they always have. His proper name IS George, but when they were little they would hear their nana saying…”George do this, George, have you done that?,” so many times that the name just stuck. So with my girls it’s ‘nana and George’.
I bet you have some funny names for your grandparents too!! Let me know.
