Think U Know Update 6: Sharing images online

We know that many of our children have digital devices and that some enjoy making videos and posting photos for others to see. This is very much part of the adult world we live in and children follow our path. In a world of Tic Toc, Instagram, Whatsapp, Facebook, Youtube  and so many more apps, it’s safer to discuss it openly and together.

This is a lovely video to watch as a parent and then discuss the ideas with your child. (Some ideas you may not wish younger children to discuss so we advise to watch yourself first.)

There are more online resources linked to this video with age appropriate tasks on our website. This topic is Task 6.  Please click here.

Week 11 – A letter from Mrs Cunningham (Tuesday)

2nd June 2020A Stelling

Do you remember a story I told you about in assembly back in October. Here’s a reminder….

Everyone enjoyed Saturday art class. There were easels that stood up, paint brushes that could be put into any colour paint pot and anyone could get fresh paper and start again as many times they wanted.

Well, I said everyone enjoyed it. That is actually not true, because Millie did not like it.

She sat by herself and drew nothing. She didn’t speak to anyone and she seemed very cross.

It was like she had a cloud over her head. Everyone was a bit scared to talk to her.

But Belle wanted to be friends. Perhaps she could try……so she went over to chat, but it didn’t seem to work.

So she thought of other things she could try. Maybe working on a drawing together, but that didn’t turn out well.

But Belle wasn’t about to give up and after lots of attempts and pictures……

there was a smile from Millie. The other children noticed and thought that it looked like a good game.

So they started to work on pictures together.

And before long everyone was drawing together.

Then I showed you all a couple of pictures that your teachers had drawn together, (a half each). Remember that I told you that Mrs Keighery was good at drawing trees, but Mrs Allan wasn’t and they worked on a drawing together and made this beautiful tree which Mrs Allan was very proud of.

Can you remember that Mrs Peacock and myself drew a butterfly and then had lots of talk about how we were going to colour each half.

I wonder if you can do a half and half picture with someone? It might be fun.

Have a top Tuesday.

Mrs Cunningham

1st June 2020A Stelling

Hello everyone, it’s Mrs Cunninmgham here again, I hope you have all had a lovely, sunny week off.

Someone in my house has loved me being in the house all week……yup….Sam!I have been doing a little bit of Amazon shopping lately, and had a few boxes left from delivery, so we decided to make him a bungalow… then a bungalow with an extension.

He liked it.

I have also put some new lights in the garden and washed the decking. But, of course it all had to be checked by the boss!!! so here he is making sure it all passed!!!

Have a meow Monday

E-safety Update May 2020

25th May 2020A Stelling

As the country has been in ‘lockdown’ the world has turned even more to technology to keep ticking. As a school we have embraced technology and have moved towards digital classrooms and explored new avenues of social media communication with parents.

E-safety is at the heart of Mortimer Primary School’s computing curriculum and we have continued to attend e-safety briefings by numerous organisations throughout the Covid-19 lockdown.

While schools have been closed across the country there has been an increase in the number of children using the internet and digital devices. Screen time has rapidly increased not only for adults but also for children. Younger children are using gaming platforms, streaming videos; there is an increase in social media such as Tic-Toc and Instagram and communication platforms such as House Party and Zoom have helped to keep the world connected while apart. As adults and children are very much aware, these come with age guidance of use and although many are fantastic portals they all carry risks of some level that both adults and children should be aware of.

E-safety is the new ‘stranger danger’ of our day and as a school and as parents/carers it is our duty of care to keep our families updated and educate our children to be aware of the dangers in an age appropriate way. We have linked CEOP resources Think You Know to our website. These are age appropriate units of work that generally involve a video and a discussion with your child.

Please click here to be taken to the resources.

Sadly, not everyone on the internet are nice people wanting the best for your children. A number of parental apps can help you to monitor apps on your children’s devices. ‘Our Pact‘ is one app which is highly rated but there are others on the market.

If you have concerns regarding e-safety; would like more support for adding parental controls to home devices or have concerns you can contact the school, who has trained members of staff to support you and your family. Our website also has links to ICT in Schools (local support), CEOP and Common Sense Media.

Myself and all the staff at Mortimer are having a little holiday next week. Don’t worry, we are not going anywhere, or seeing each other. We are having a week in our houses. My ironing pile is huge and I have lots of homework to do from the Town Hall.

All of your teachers will be in touch next week.

Have a very happy half term.
