Latest Update Regarding Key Workers and Childcare

19th March 2020Mr Bennett

*Please read the following and ONLY fill out the form if applicable.

Dear all,

Due to the CoronaVirus outbreak, Mortimer Primary School will close at the end of the school day on Friday for an unspecified time.

From Monday 23rd March, we will be operating a limited service for the children of key workers (we are still waiting for the official list from the government).

These may include: National Health Service, Armed forces, Teachers and childcare staff, Care home workers, Social workers, Police officers, community support, Prison officer or other probation staff,

Firefighters, Local authority planners, Environmental health officers and Highway Agency traffic officers. This also includes children with an EHCP and identified vulnerable pupils.

This is an optional service and will not be a typical school day. Parents who identify as key workers are able to organise their own child care arrangements. The government actively discourage the use of elderly family members to fill this role.

Any children in school will receive care from different staff members across a variety of activities. We can not state which staff members will oversee your child’s care.

As of yet we don’t know if eligible families will need to have one or two key workers to access this provision. Single key worker parents will qualify.

A reduced lunch service will be in operation but all children will be fed.

Once we have an understanding of potential numbers we will be able to share details of a full plan.

Parents will need to have proof of employment within a key worker category to ensure the right children and families are supported.

We will continue to update you and appreciate your patience in these challenging times.

Please click the link below to submit your key worker response.

Green Tree Award – It’s gold for Mortimer!

17th March 2020A Stelling

Mrs Mackay is delighted to announce that we have received the gold award from the Green Tree project run by the Woodland Trust. Our plaque will arrive in school within the next two weeks and we will display it proudly. The children and parents have all worked towards this achievement so a huge thank you to all. We will not stop there however. Mortimer Primary School will continue to look at ways we can help the environment and discuss current affairs in lessons. We are due to receive another 30 trees in November which we will plant around the school grounds as well as add to our mini-woodland on the turning circle.

Well done everyone.

Update for Parents

16th March 2020A Stelling

We are informing you that one member of the teaching staff is currently self-isolating after experiencing flu like symptoms. After seeking advice, we remain open and continue as normal as possible, whilst ensuring that all precautions in school are taken regarding hygiene and sanitation.

Parents Evening

Parents evening (16th March) will go ahead with the following guidelines:

•    Parents evenings are voluntary and we need to ensure your safety. If you feel unwell or anxious about coming into school, then an alternative appointment can be organised at a later date.

•    Meetings will be strictly 5mins in length

•    Please arrive as close to your allotted time as possible

•    There will be a 2m exclusion in the classroom

•    Pupils exercise books will be unavailable on this occasion

•    Where possible leave children at home to reduce numbers in school

•    You will be directed to hand sanitize on arrival and please repeat on leaving

•    You do not need to inform us if you will not be attending your appointment this evening

We understand that parents and careers will be concerned, but we are working closely with the local authority and Public Health England to ensure that the current guidance for schools is followed and we have all practical measures in place to ensure the health and safety of our pupils and staff.

Green Tree Award

13th March 2020A Stelling
We have had a lovely time this afternoon planting the trees we received from the Woodland Trust. The children involved and the parents who could join us seemed to have a great time. Mrs Mackay would again like to say a huge thank you to all those involved with the planting. She is very hopeful that the Mortimer Woodland will be something that all of the children in our school will come to enjoy.
The tree planting session will earn us the final point we need to earn the school the Gold Green Tree Award. Mrs Mackay is very proud of the hard work the children have put into earning us this accolade. We will look forward to receiving the award and will display it proudly in school.

Year 1 STEM Week 2020: Historical Houses

10th March 2020A Stelling

On Monday we used iPad’s to research what houses looked like in 1666. We found that they have white washed walls, wooden beams and small windows. On Tuesday, we designed our houses and wrote a list of materials we would need to make them. Then we decided to turn our cardboard boxes inside out as this would make them easier to paint. We tried to secure them with Sellotape but through trial and error found that masking tape was better as a joining material. Then we use strips of paper to decorated them to look like they had wooden beams. After we had finished our houses we evaluated them against our success criteria and discussed what we would change for next time.
