This is a video showing how one child achieves such high speeds on TTRock stars, consistently achieving that fastest speeds in our school. Being recorded did put him off a little, as he regularly scores over 100!
We are very proud to have a growing number of children working at this speed!
We would like to say a huge ‘well done’ to all of our Reading Champions for the month of February. Congratulations to our overall Key Stage 2 winner, Sally from class 5AM, who is the recipient of the £10 book voucher prize. We hope you enjoy shopping for your next read.
Well done Daniel Clements for the achievement of “Rockstar Of The Week!”
Daniel achieved Rock Hero status this week, which means he answers questions in less than one second. An amazing achievement, well done!
Our Y4 STEM club have designed their vehicles and have began to measure and cut their wood ready to start making their models.
Great work team!
This week in school we have been celebrating Safer Internet Day 2020 through a number of assemblies, lessons in class and shared story times.
We hope your children have came home and discussed these very important lessons with you. These sessions are always delivered at age appropriate levels and we are always impressed by how mature our pupils respond to this topic, which effects every aspect of their day-to-day life.
Please remember we have an open door policy for any queries, worries or concerns about digital devices, websites, social media and app usage. We are here to support and help you and your family.
Year 5 children have just completed a four week block of fencing delivered by Premier Sport. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning how to fence. The lessons are delivered in a way which ensures the safety of the children. This is just one of the many sports we offer that enriches our curriculum content in Physical Education. Salut!
Science club will commence after half term for ten lucky Year 2 children. We have already written a letter to the Coop on Mortimer Road to see if they can help us with our first session. We hope to obtain the resources to make a bird feeder each to hang around our school grounds. We are also hopeful that there will be enough resources to make one to take home too. Mrs Mackay is looking forward to seeing her mini-scientists the first Monday back.
House Competitions
Although our House competitions traditionally are played in the Summer term, this is an early fixture for our intra-school competition programme. This enables Mr Mackay to select our swimmers for the inter-school games which takes place in the Spring term. This proved to be an extremely close event with Armstrong, Kirkpatrick and Wouldhave all being joint winners. The gala was enjoyed by all who took part.
South Tyneside Swimming Gala
This was held on the 12th February at Haven Point and featured entries from 13 teams from different schools. Mortimer won a gold medal in the girls’ freestyle and bronze medals in both the boys’ freestyle and backstroke. Mortimer’s team did well enough to secure a place in the South of Tyne finals including Gateshead LA which will be held in March. Well done our swimming team.
On the 16th January Year 5 as part of the Hoops for Health programme run by Newcastle Eagles entered a very exciting competition at Temple Park. Mortimer entered three teams and although we did not make it through to the finals, all of our children thoroughly enjoyed the day.
