Well done to our Girls’ Football team who kicked off the season this week with a tournament at Boldon Comprehensive this week. They had a flurry of great results and we are very excited to see their progress throughout the year.
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6 Pupils 1 October 2019
Admission to Secondary School in September 2020
May I remind you that the closing date for returning your application form for your child to transfer into Secondary School next year is Thursday 31 October 2019 at 4.30pm.
The easiest way to apply for your preferred school(s) is online by logging onto the Council web site at www.southtyneside.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
If you apply online, you will be notified on Monday 2 March 2020 our ‘offer day’ via your e-mail account.
Please be reminded that you must make a note of the email address that you use when applying as this will be the email address that will be used to send notification of your school offer.
Parents are also reminded that if they change address following the submission of an application form that they must notify us of this change in writing either by email to [email protected] or by post to the School Admissions Team, Town Hall and Civic Offices, South Shields, NE33 2RL. Change of addresses must reach us by Monday 6 January 2020. If you do not provide us with a change of address by this date, your new address will not be taken into account when allocating places.
If you have not applied online, you will receive a letter which is sent in the second class post on offer day.
If you do not have access to a computer you can obtain a hard copy of the application form by contacting the School Admissions Team on telephone numbers 0191 424 7767 or 0191 424 7706.
Failure to return or returning your application form late will reduce the chance of your child gaining a place at your preferred school.
Please be reminded, it is your responsibility to ensure your application form is completed and received by the deadline date of Thursday 31 October 2019 at 4.30pm.
This is a generic message to all parents so if you have already applied for your child’s school place please ignore this letter.
Yours sincerely
Christine Henderson

Dear Parents and Carers
We have been working closely with Public Health England regarding the recent outbreak of illness within school. Please find overleaf a letter from Public Health England addressing the situation and to provide you with some further information.
Can I please take this opportunity to reassure you that we are taking all necessary precautions and thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.
Yours faithfully
Mrs G Cunningham
Head Teacher
Dear parent/guardian,
Re: Illness in school
We have been made aware that a number of children attending Mortimer Primary School have been reported absent with symptoms including headache and fever. The purpose of this letter is to provide you with some further information and advice.
At this time of year when children return to school it is not uncommon for some infectious illnesses to circulate. The spread of most infectious diseases is reduced through good hand hygiene. Please encourage your child to wash their hands frequently with warm water and soap, particularly after using the toilet, after using a tissue to catch a cough or sneeze, and before eating.
Your child should not attend school if they are unwell and should only return once they have recovered. If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms or need further advice on how to manage an illness please consult your GP or NHS 111 in the normal way.
If you would like to discuss any of the information in this letter further, please contact my team on 0300 303 8596 (option 1).
Yours sincerely
Dr Gayle Dolan
Consultant in Health Protection

We are delighted to announce that our school has been awarded the PSQM award for the next three years. The award recognises the outstanding science provision we offer our children. Staff and the children are immensely proud of their achievements and we will be collecting our certificate in November from the National STEM Centre in York.
We look forward to welcoming children back on Tuesday 3rd September.
Please note Reception children start Thursday 5th September.
We said a fond farewell and good luck to all of our Y6 children in July and also to some of our very lovely colleagues.
We wish good luck to all of our past pupils who will be starting their new schools next week and look forward to hearing of all their future successes!
We said a sad goodbye to Mrs Batson, who has worked at Mortimer Primary for 23 years, as she retired from teaching. We wish her a very healthy and happy retirement. She has left a lasting footprint on the hearts of all the Mortimer family.
We also wish good luck to Mrs Simanis and Miss Patterson who are leaving to start teacher training. We know they have a very bright and happy future ahead of them.
Here are a few photos from our final day of term.
