Reception: Williby Roc’s

10th May 2019A Stelling

Danielle, from Williby Roc, came into school to talk to reception about caring for creatures in the environment. The children went on a bug hunt in the garden and then made clay models after observing mini-beasts in their natural environment.

The children are very much looking forward to working with Danielle again soon to make a ‘bug hotel’ for their outside classroom.

Bart Rippon Cup Winners!

8th May 2019A Stelling

The South Tyneside primary Schools FA Bart Rippon Cup took place on Friday 26th April at Temple Park. Fourteen schools took part in the tournament which was filled with superb football action played to a high level.

Mortimer placed in Group 1 and managed three wins and two draws. This placed them second in their group and meant they were going to meet Hedworth Lane (the winners of group 2) in the semi-finals. The game went to penalties after extra time which saw Mortimer coming away with a victory.
St Oswalds won their semi-final and the resulting final was a very close affair. Again the game resulted in extra time with Mortimer managing to score the winning goal. The boys faced very stiff opposition and did very well to secure the winning trophy in this very hard fought competition.

Maxi the Lifeguard

3rd May 2019A Stelling

Maxi the Lifeguard, also known as Trent Maxwell from hit programme Bondi Beach, visited our Key Stage 2 children this morning to talk about water and fire safety.

In 2018 Maxi founded a Social Enterprise ‘Live Learn Survive’ which is a series of interactive Fire & Water Safety workshops. These workshops educate children and young adults to teach them skills that save lives. The ‘Maxi the Lifeguard’ books purchased through Maxi’s website support and enable Live Learn Survive workshops to be carried out in disadvantaged areas.

Children can attend workshops on water safety at South Shields Beach tomorrow from 12:15 (registration) and there are additional fire rescue workshops on Newcastle Quayside from 11:00 Sunday.

Y6 Mountains of the World – An afternoon with Steve Berry

2nd May 2019A Stelling

Y6 had a fabulous afternoon with explorer and expedition leader Steve Berry to enhance their topic on Mountains of The World.

Local man Steve, is one of the few people in the world to have climbed the highest mountain on each of the seven continents. His knowledge and experience provides a priceless, first hand experience for the pupils.

They loved hearing his stories and anecdotes about surviving in some of the world’s toughest terrains and his message of ‘anything is possible when you apply your mind’ was inspirational to our young people.

A huge thank you to Steve for talking to our children.
