Football Update

19th November 2018A Stelling
The A team had two convincing wins on he 14th November. The results were 9-0 against Westoe Crown and 7-2 against Ashley Primary. The boys remain undefeated in their league.
The B team were unlucky not to have scored in their game against Simonside and found Westoe Crown tough opposition on the 8th November.
The A team girls had an excellent couple of games winning both of their matches 4-0. The B team managed a draw in both of their fixtures.

Year 4 had a fantastic time at Jarrow Hall learning about Anglo-Saxon life. They found out about life on the farm, heard the story of Beowulf told by the fire and took part in a battle re-enactment. They even acted as a mock Anglo-Saxon jury and sentenced their teachers to be put in the stocks!

Y2 Toy Museum

As part of their history topic on The Victorians, Year 2 created a toy museum for Year 3 children to come and visit.

Science Club

13th November 2018A Stelling

Science club has got off to a great start with ten budding Year 2 scientists. Week one saw the children engaging in a ‘Magic Ball’ activity and week two involved making a laughing chicken. The children work enthusiastically during the club and the staff are so impressed with their scientific knowledge. All of the children are currently growing an alligator at home with the help of their parents. We will all look forward to the next session.

Young Mathematicians Award 2018

12th November 2018A Stelling
Our children competed in heat 1 of 3, there were 10 schools in their heat and 26 altogether competing in round 1 at the Sunderland centre.
There are over 120 centres across the UK and over 4000 schools entering the competition. We should hear by Monday the 19th whether we are 1 of the 5 through to round 2 at Sunderland.
The first 2 rounds take place at Explore Learning.
We were very proud of our four representatives from Mortimer Primary, who were excellent ambassadors for the school.

Y6 Clay Hedgehogs

12th November 2018A Stelling

Our Y6 children this term are enjoying learning about clay and are creating hedgehogs. Here is Y6AS modelling their creations, they will be placed in a kiln to dry and then painted and glazed before they make their way home.

Mortimer Remembers

Mortimer Primary School commemorated Armistice Day by taking part in a service of Remembrance at West Park and our house captains laid a wreath on behalf of our school.  All of our staff and pupils observed a minutes silence at school.

Buddies

6th November 2018A Stelling

Our children in Year 5 were very keen this year on taking on the role of ‘school buddy.’ This is part of our pupil leadership package that our school believes is extremely important. The buddies work with Reception through to Year 4 helping and playing with the younger children.
