Reception enjoyed a visit from Iain and his lovely pets as therapy dogs on Wednesday.
Iain, who is a head veterinary nurse at Willow Veterinary Centre, talked with the children about how important it is to look after our pets and how they can also help us.
The children loved learning about how Gracie and Maya go into hospitals and hospices to help sick and poorly people feel better.
Our wonderful choir has just come to the end of what has been a very busy, but extremely enjoyable year.
Autumn Term always finds us rehearsing Christmas music before we know it and we had a super time taking ourselves out into the community to share a little Christmas Spirit with others. Once again we sang for the ‘Tea and Chat group’ who meet at Westoe Methodists, Marsden’s ‘Friendly Circle’ plus a new adventure – a performance at Hillhead Tearooms (followed by delicious doughnuts and juice!).
We also performed alongside South Tyneside’s Senior Wind Band at the Rotary Carol Service in St Hilda’s Church.
Spring Term introduced us to an amazing charity ‘Daft as a Brush’, a brilliant group of people who provide support in the form of dedicated transport for cancer patients. We sang at the launch of their ‘River Tyne Trail’ in April, joining Toner Avenue Choir to sing ‘Water of Tyne’ at South Shields Pier.
Summer Term saw us return to the wonderful acoustics of St Michael’s Church, Westoe, where we joined with Bede Wind Band in a lovely evening of music on June 24th. We discovered a few potential conductors hiding in our ranks too!
Our summer concert also means a final performance for our Year 6 members and we would like to say a very big thank to them for their continuous dedication over the last four years. Good luck and keep on singing!
The children have worked enthusiastically all year, producing one of the best sounds we have heard in several years. Without the fantastic support we receive from Mr Powell and Mrs Taylor each week we wouldn’t be able to do as much as we do and we would like to say thank you very much to them both.
Here’s to another fabulous year next year!
